iPhone Nano To Be Launched By Christmas?

iPhone Nano To Be Launched By Christmas?

According to some rumors, Apple plans to release a mini version of the iPhone called iPhone nano. The source says should be available by Christmas at a price of 0 sans contract. The idea that Apple (AAPL) might eventually introduce a family of iPhones of different sizes that sell at different prices is hardly new. A rumor that an iPhone nano would be launched before Christmas 2007 was making the rounds just over a year ago (see, for example, MacRumor here).

But the timing was wrong last summer and, according to Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster, this summer’s rumor is also a bit off.

“Just as the company slowly diversified the iPod lineup andentered lower price points with every new version,” wrote Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster in May, “we expect Apple to launch new models of the iPhone at lower price points in calendar year 2009.”

“This rumour still doesn’t make any sense to me for this year,” wrote a British investor who calls himself sleepygeek. “Taking features out of the current iPhone loses or more of revenue for every saved in build costs. iPhone Nano would have to outsell iPhone by a large factor (5 -10 times the sales) to make sense.”

The Daily Mail item suggests that the new phone will be available in British shops by Christmas for 150 pounds (just under 0). It doesn’t offer any supporting evidence beyond an unnamed “industry source” who is quoted saying that “a cut down version [of the original iPhone], with the candy bar shape of iPod nano music players, would be a huge hit as a Christmas gift.”

The idea is that the Nanoesque iPhone would end up in Christmas stockings, as an alternative to the popular, recently launched 8GB and 16GB devices.

There are a couple of things still unclear, such as the specs or even why Apple and O2 would make this move. The Mail Online’s source says that the iPhone 3G is “too expensive to be a realistic proposition in the pay-as-you-go market”, with the implication that the new device would fill that gap. But O2 says on its site that an iPhone 3G for Pay & Go will be available later this year”. And why wouldn’t Apple wait for the initial 3G hullaballoo to die down fully before putting out a new version?

Baby Jewelry This Christmas

Baby Jewelry This Christmas

Those little eyes filled with shine, innocence and curiosity; that skin so soft; that look and smile so beautiful. New-borns always tend to fill the environment with happiness and enthusiasm. Since the day they are born their each moment and step is a landmark or memory in itself. Nothing can be more appropriate than baby jewelry to capture there their first Christmas through and eternal gift. Gift your babies with twinkling gemstone jewelry to the match the twinkle of their little eyes. Here are few handy tips that would not only help you choose a right jewelry for babies but also suggest some ideas to choose from.

Baby colored gemstone:

Baby jewelry classifies as a separate category due its distinct characteristics and peculiar features. When it comes to baby jewelry one should go for pastel bright colors like that of aquamarines, pink sapphire, tanzanite, jade and tourmaline. Stones like tanzanite and aquamarine have attractive color and good amount of brilliance as well. Babies find color and sheen vary fascinating. So this would keep them involved all day long.

Baby specific designs:

Christmas specific baby jewelry designs range from snow bear, Christmas tree, Christmas stockings, shooting star to simple solitaires representing Christmas colors. Apart from this soft floral and animal designs are also popular. While buying these one should take care that designs should be simple and small. Charm bracelets are also very captivating for baby jewelry. Choose a comfortable bracelet and decorate it with your favorite charms. Some of the
most liked charms you can choose from are horse shoe charm, heart charm, star charm, cloud charm or the charms in the form of cartoon characters or toys. Instead of individual jewelry items one can also go for baby jewelry sets
that combine a pendant, earrings and bracelet.

Wearability:

When it comes to baby jewelry wearability is an important factor. There is no point in buying a jewelry that is beautiful but is interferes with clothes and is uneasy for the baby to wear. Make sure that there are no sharp edges. Go for safe settings such as bezel or gypsy as prong setting is more likely to interfere with their clothing. Apart from design weight is also important. It is good to go for light weight designs that are small in size. Also in case of choosing chain-pendant or necklaces feel them against your fingers to check for sharp and uneven surfaces.

Finding the True Meaning of Christmas and Avoiding the Holiday Blues

Finding the True Meaning of Christmas and Avoiding the Holiday Blues

Thoughtful people are sometimes troubled by shallowness and consumerism during the holidays. Don’t be troubled. The engineer keeps searching for a solution, the scientist for a break-through, and the researcher for a cure. They do not quit just because others do not share in their pursuit of answers.

In your quest for life’s meaning and purpose, be as patiently persistent as they are. Enjoy the niceties and fellowship of the holidays, and also look for the deeper meaning of life. It is okay to have fun and be thoughtful at the same time.

Looking for real answers to life’s meaning is like a treasure hunt. You have to seek for it. What is the old saying about not cursing the darkness, but lighting a candle instead? Likewise, instead of lamenting the materialism, look for real meaning (and then share it with others).

Maybe, just maybe the meaning could be right here amidst the busy-ness. So instead of being distracted by resenting the advertisers and harried shoppers, let’s keep seeking. Why, we are even told to do so in the Book where the original Christmas story is told.

The wise men followed a star, seeking the Christ Child. The shepherds sought the baby Jesus after having been given a hint by the angels (“you will find Him wrapped in swaddling clothes and laying in a manger”). Even Jesus’ mother had to seek for Him. We are told that Mary sought for Jesus, and found Him in the temple teaching.

Time and again, the process of seeking is said to be important. The centurion whose daughter was sick came to seek Jesus, and when he found Him, the daughter was healed. Jesus told parables involving seeking: where, for example, the master came back and sought the servant, where the prodigal son sought his father, where the bridesmaids sought the bride, or where the shepherd sought the lost sheep. When Jesus was killed, Mary and Martha came to seek Him, but He was risen. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said: “seek and ye shall find.”

Today we must also seek for Jesus and what He represents. The shallowness of consumerism at Christmas time should not trouble us. It simply means that He is not to be found there. When our religious, moral or political leaders are revealed to be opportunists or frauds, it should not trouble us. It only means He is not to be found there. When their words are shallow, it means He is not to be found there. Thus it is revealed where there is no use looking for Him.

But He is here. He even gave us some hints where to look. He said wherever two or more are “gathered in my name, there am I among them.” Maybe He also wants us to figure out what “in my name” really means. He also hinted that the Kingdom of Heaven is all around us. He also said the Kingdom of Heaven is within. He said words to the effect that “if you love me and obey my commandments, then the Father and I will come and make our abode in you.” Was that a clue about how to find?

But don’t forget that He said: “Seek first the Kingdom of God.” Was this another hint: this time about seeking to do what is right first, instead of self-seeking and expediency first?

He said that in the last days people would say, “He is here or He is there,” but He would not be found there. He is not where most people expect Him to be.

Little children love Santa Claus or love their dolly. This love is beautiful and sweet, but it is an emotional thing. Alas, many of us have had feelings for Jesus in the same way. We adults must seek for something deeper.

In human terms, the meaning of Christmas may be about giving, about sharing or about family. This is fine as far as it goes. The presents, the friendship, the Christmas stockings, the Christmas story, the music and the candles are nice and they have their place. But the true seeker keeps seeking. Without rejecting the niceties of Christmas, the seeker keeps searching for the real Jesus, that’s all.

Therefore, if you have a sense that the true meaning of Christmas is lacking, you are probably right. If you feel like something is still missing and you haven’t really found Him–even though you may have said you have and want to have–then keep searching. That is what He told us to do.

(7/18/09–I had to change the title of this video to what it is now because people have a leg/foot fetish and it was being brought up in searches for people to view for the wrong reasons.) Because we were heading up to Salt Lake for the holidays, we had to do everything earlier in St. George last year. So instead of seeing what was in our stockings the night before Christmas (like Rachel’s family does and has done for years), we had to do it on December 22, because we were having the family Christmas Eve party on December 23rd. Confused? Don’ be… Just sit back, relax and enjoy the video.

How to Have a Merry Christmas on a Budget

How to Have a Merry Christmas on a Budget

With many Americans now facing greater financial challenges than they were a year ago, the upcoming holiday season may leave us with more feelings of dread than excitement.  After all, the holidays are an expensive time of year.  There are gifts to purchase, meals to prepare, and family members to host and entertain.  In spite of all this, it is still possible to have a wonderful holiday season while sticking to a budget.  We’ll explain how by breaking things down into the five main areas where our holiday dollars are spent.

Gifts:
Christmas gift shopping often takes up the largest part of a family’s holiday budget.  If you want to save money on gifts, planning is key.  First, create a budget, outlining how much you have to spend and what you want to buy for each person.  Next, watch the sale ads in your local newspaper and check prices online.  Don’t forget to keep an eye out for discount coupons or rebate offers that can also add up to additional savings.  Buying online is also a good way to save gas money and valuable time, and it can cut down on impulse purchases, too, since you won’t be at a mall, tempted by lots of other things you don’t need.  Another great money-saving idea is to make homemade gifts for everyone.  If you aren’t very crafty, remember that your time is also a very valuable gift.  Coupon books for services like babysitting, handyman repairs, or yard work are also well received and appreciated.

Food:
There are many ways you can save money on food at the holidays.  If you are hosting a large dinner, consider making it a potluck where each person contributes a dish to the meal.  This allows everyone to share in the cost and also creates a varied meal where many families’ specialties can be sampled.  Another way you can save money on large family meals is by breaking tradition.  Perhaps everyone would enjoy chicken or pasta on Christmas Eve rather than ham or beef tenderloin.  Another alternative to an expensive dinner is to do a low-key brunch on Christmas morning after opening gifts.  This can be a refreshing change for family members who are traveling and need to get on the road early.  If traveling is in your plans, be sure to pack some healthy snacks and drinks for the car.  This will cut down on the expense of fast food at gas stations and restaurants.

Entertainment:
It’s usually easy to cut back on spending for entertainment, if you simply take advantage of free family activities.  For example, take your children to see Santa Claus at the mall, or if you don’t have kids, go watch other children tell Santa what they want for Christmas.  If you live in a cold weather climate, participate in outdoor activities like sledding at the park, ice skating on a frozen pond, or building a snowman in the backyard.  Instead of going to the movies, just watch some holiday programs that are broadcast on television during the month of December, or better yet, attend a free holiday play or concert at your local church, community center, or school.

Decorations:
The best way to save money on holiday decorations is by making do with what you already have.  If you simply must buy some different items, consider buying used decorations from garage sales, auctions, or online sites like Craigslist.  If you can make yourself wait until after Christmas, stock up for the following year by taking advantage of post-Christmas sales.  On December 26 and after, most holiday items can be bought for half or a quarter of the original price.

Contributions:
Even on the sparsest budget, it is still possible to give back to the community at the holidays.  Many charities and organizations value your time even more than a monetary contribution.  Consider donating some gently used clothing or other items to a homeless shelter, or volunteering your time to serve dinner at a soup kitchen.  Other options might include answering phones at a call center or ringing a bell to solicit donations at a local grocery store or mall.  These are all great ways to give back without dipping into your bank account.

With all of these suggestions, we hope you’ll realize that it’s not impossible to stick to a budget at the holidays.  With a little careful planning and a few minor changes in your activities, you will hopefully find yourself at the end of the season with plenty of good memories, a warm feeling in your heart, and some money left in your pocket.

Spanish Food ? Something to Enjoy this Christmas

Spanish Food ? Something to Enjoy this Christmas

As we get older we move away from a Christmas full of toys and flashing lights and into a world of practical presents: socks, bicycle lights and power tools. ‘I thought that it would be better to get something you might use’, muse in-laws, and our inner voice says ‘I thought just once you might get me something I can enjoy’.

A familiar scenario indeed, but it doesn’t have to be a case of doom and gloom; plenty of people now buy each other food for Christmas, and they make great gifts for those who have had to let childhood fun go and still believe that Christmas is about revelling in and enjoying the finer and more.

Spanish Food is a Great Christmas Gift
Perhaps one of the most flavoursome cuisines in the world, Spanish food has plenty to offer in the way of enjoyment, and is for that reason a great addition to any Christmas stocking. With superb wines, from Riojas to Moscatel dessert wine, and excellent olives, Spanish food is a notable indulgence that can really put the enjoyment back into Christmas winters.

The range of cheeses and meats in Spanish food is also impressive: for meat lovers, there’s no better gift than a well preserved chorizo sausage, or some finely prepared Serrano ham, and the Manchego, Idiazabal and Murcia al Vino cheeses are some of the best in the world, and will certainly get the love and appreciation they deserve from the cheese addicts among your presents list.

Christmas is a Time to Enjoy Spanish Food
When stuck for something to buy those at Christmas who insist that it’s a time for enjoyment and fun, then, remember that specialist and genuinely quality food and drink are excellent luxuries that most people will appreciate, and that Spanish food is some of the best cuisine out there.

The Mediterranean is so rich in cuisine, in fact, that some of its most famous exports – its meats and cheeses – are easily matched by its vegetarian dishes, such as asparagus, piquillo peppers and artichokes.

For those with a sweet tooth, too, there are plenty of nuts, sweets and honeys and jams that can satisfy even the most ardent sugar fiend.

Spanish Food, then, is a great example of the great gift of food, and anyone who’s suck for things to buy their loved ones that they know they’ll really appreciate, should think about what the Mediterranean has to offer.

If you are thinking of treating a friend or relative to a gift of Spanish food this Christmas, you should visit www.delicioso.co.uk, which stocks a wide range of food from Spain, including cheeses and hams, wines and sweets, all with delivery to your home or business place in the UK.

Christmas Ideas to Wow You – Part 2

Christmas Ideas to Wow You – Part 2

With so many various Christmas decorations, it is difficult to describe them all. In describing part of the living room, I felt a big WOW as I continued through the other rooms. In Christmas Ideas That Will Wow You Part 2, I will continue describe some of the very special simple decorations that I observed on my visit through a Christmas wonderland.

Simple little ideas can yield big “Wows” when used effectively. Christmas glass balls, small gold and silver beaded chains, glass bowls and jars, bells, red velvet are all things that can be easily used to dress up an area of decoration. Fireplaces are a typical place to use to display Christmas stockings, movable, animated animals or Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Use tinsel around the bases and lay glass ornaments, silk poinsettia flowers and weave around the area some gold beads. Take the red velvet and add some bells to put on you doors. If there are no young children or animals, you could even place a bowl of candy or add candy canes to each of your decorated areas.

Without much effort you can make a great table centerpiece using a glass hurricane lamp and a pillar candle. Find a small, smooth, tree branch with a good number of “finger branches”. The total size of the branch must be a little smaller than the largest hole of the hurricane. When you have the branch inside of the hurricane with the candle, you can decorate it. Using miniature ornaments, plastic red berries or anything small and Christmassy to decorate the “finger branches” on the tips of the larger branch inside the hurricane. Make it a miniature Christmas tree with a few balls and gold beaded stings. Let your imagination go to work and try different combinations of decorations.

In my sister-in-law’s dining room, I was surprised and pleased to see how Christmassy it looked, too. There were chair covers in red, green and white satin and a big flower arrangement on the table covered with a Christmas tablecloth. Christmas dishes, napkins, candles and place mats were set at each chair. It was beautiful. These are items that most families have and use, but most don’t think of using the place settings on a decorated table as decorations.

The glass French doors in the living room opened to the back deck where there was a large blowup animated snow globe. Looking through all the beautiful Christmas decorations and feeling the festive spirit, I looked outside through the doors and saw it snowing! With all the trees bare in the background, the foreground “appeared” to be getting snow because the large animated snow globe was working. There was a big snowman and a Christmas tree with a large gold star on the top in this blowup animated snow globe and snow was blowing all around the inside.

With winter scenery, the animated snow blowing in the globe with the snowman, the bright yellow star on the top of the tree beckons my attention. I had already begun to feel the spirit of the holidays and with all the “wow” of the splendid decorations, I find myself believing it really is snowing. It takes so little money to decorate many different areas of your home for the holiday. Use things that you have and some imagination to make your own “Winter Wonderland”. It will make all the difference in your holiday mood and spirit and it will WOW you and your friends, and make you feel so accomplished and cheerful. Have a Merry Christmas.

Christmas Celebrations – What Are we Really Looking For?

Christmas Celebrations – What Are we Really Looking For?

Christmas is a time of the year that arouses various emotions in people. For some, it is seen as a time to connect with family and friends and remind ourselves of the importance of our closest communities. For others, it is a time in the calendar which announces that another year has passed, with mixed feelings about where we are going in life and how you can best create the balance we so desire in the coming year. For others, Christmas is met with cynicism and sadness at the overly consumerist pressure to spend even more money on things we clearly don’t need and from which we derive only temporary satisfaction.

Whenever someone is challenged as to what Christmas means to them, they often resort to saying things like ‘Well, it is really all about the children, isn’t it?’ But are we really convinced with this answer or is it an attempt to justify our seemingly driven and unexamined behaviour to act in certain ways regarding Christmas?

For many of us, our children no longer have to wait for luxury items or experiences once a year. Long gone are the post-war years when one toy and a piece of fruit in a Christmas stocking were met with excitement and anticipation. It seems that for many of us, we do not know exactly why we feel driven to respond to the social and cultural expectations regarding Christmas and for people in western society, this usually means elevated consumer spending. Many of us don’t even question whether we can afford to spend in ways we do or whether we want to spend our precious limited time pretending to enjoy time with those we might prefer not to. As psychologists, counselors and marriage guidance bureaus testify, January is a busier month in their diaries following a Christmas that failed to meet unquestioned expectations, to which we were unable to say no.

But what is Christmas really all about? It seems that we have a tremendous urge for ritual in our lives. Collectively recognised and honoured traditions allow us to stave off an existential angst of questioning what our existence is really all about. It also staves off a sense of aloneness and uncertainly since we can hoodwink ourselves into believing that these realities objectively exist beyond social and cultural expectations. Those who blindly declare they have little choice regarding family expectations are, in my experience as a psychologist, those who relinquish the responsibility for owning their own reactions to these existential yearnings. Those who dare to take responsibility for their reactions to Christmas and other social and cultural events, knowing that life is an unfixed reality, are those who seem to have a greater potential to create a life of meaning and purpose. This has nothing to do with celebrating Christmas in socially sanctioned ways. It is to do with an open-minded awareness of the unquestioned myths surrounding Christmas and our choices in responding to it with choice and responsibility, not duty and obligation.

Clare Mann is a Counselling Psychologist in Sydney Australia who specialises in assisting people to remove the myths of limitation in their lives. She is the author of the “Myths of Life and The Choices We Have”, and existential self-help book. Psychologist Sydney
